About Andersen Counseling
Mary Jo Andersen, LPC, RPT is a Professional Clinical Counselor & Play Therapist, who received her Masters of Science degree in Counseling and Student Affairs from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 2001.
She is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). She has also completed 500 graduate hours in play therapy and is both a Certified Play Therapist and a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). She specializes in the language of children (play) to help them learn more adaptive behaviors. In addition, creative arts such as sand tray, art, and music are used to help children express what is troubling them when verbal language fails.
In addition, she specializes in working with adults who have been traumatized as children and others struggling with mood disorders that keep them stuck. She is trained in EMDR therapy and Prolonged Exposure trauma therapy. She enjoys working with children, adults, couples, and families.
Issues which prompt people to seek counseling, include:
• marital conflict
• pre-marital issues
• parent-child concerns
• low self-esteem
• post-traumatic stress
Clients average 5 – 6 sessions; however, some may only need 1 or 2 sessions and others require more extensive services.
